Angle Grinding machine Safety

When we talk about the safety of angle grinding machines.  The first and foremost concern is the possible cracking and subsequent breakdown of the grinding wheel.

This is the one of the major reason why the angle grinder machine does have a guard for the rotating grinding wheel.

Now what are the reason for cracking and breakdown of the grinding machine..?

If the rotating speed of the machine is greater than the maximum allowed speed of the grinding wheel then there is extremely high (Very Likely) probability of cracking and breakdown of the wheel.

Severity due to the above incident will be major because the broken wheel piece can hit the person with high amount of force and it's sharp edges can make deep cuts in the body. Most of the cases effected part will be face or forehead. It can cause permanent disability or even death of a person.

 

While rotating in over speed Centrifugal force applied on the wheel will cross the maximum limit of force can withstandable by the wheel. which will cracks and breaks the it.

The most effective corrective action to control this hazard is to use the grinding wheel which is designed for a maximum speed of more than the machine speed.
